Our first garden

Gardens have been a part of the Suggs family for as long as I can remember. Garrett planted a grapevine at Mom & Dad's the same year Delanie chose strawberries.  Charlene always has something growing in her back yard.  Not to mention the huge pear tree she loves to pamper.  Bill can grow absolutely anything.  Victory gardens started for my grandparents during WW2.  I don't know what happened to me......I didn't inherit the green thumb.  I'm hoping with the friendly Summer weather in Minnesota, that will soon change.

Last week, our neighbors asked if we wanted some extra tomato plants they didn't have room for.  It was funny how different my reaction was to Jim's.  My mind started racing about plowing up the sunny side of the house, reducing our carbon footprint, helping the environment, etc.  Jim started agonizing on how much work was involved.

After tons of research (once a teacher, always a teacher!), it was time for a Home Depot run and several hours of dirty, stinky and sweaty work.  Check out the results....

We have tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos, sweet red peppers, onions, basil, rosemary and cantaloupe.  Not bad for our first time!  It's exciting to see the growth each night .  My first sweet red pepper is starting to grow.  Keep your fingers crossed! I'm hoping to make a huge batch of salsa soon! :)

Never grow up...

Your little hands wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter 'cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light

To you everything's funny
You got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple

I won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
No, no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And your're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14, there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call you own shots

But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older, too
And don't lose the way that you dance around
In your PJs getting ready for school

Oh, darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh, darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple

No one's ever burned you
Nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to
Just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs

I just realized everything I have
Is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder than I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh, I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
Could still be little
Oh, I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple

Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple

Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to
Please try to never grow up

Don't you ever grow up
Just never grow up

My wish...

I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile.

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but you never forget,
All the ones who love you in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive and you never regret
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace in every mistake,
And you always give ore than you take.

The first time I heard this song, Garrett and I were in the car going to baseball practice.  I told him we were going to dance to this song when he got married.  He just nodded and said, "OK, Mom".  Every time we were together and heard the song after that, I reminded him of our future date.  He would always nod, smile and change the subject.  Finally, several years later, after listening to the song, he said, "Mom......how are we going to afford to have Rascal Flatts sing at my wedding?!"  I died laughing!  Who said anything about having a private concert??  It's funny how our kids remember things differently than we do.  Band or not, I cannot wait until that dance! :)

Excuse me!

This is something you're definitely not going to see in Texas.  While running my errands this weekend, I had to make a hasty stop in the middle of the road to allow the crossing of a gaggle of geese.  Yep, you read that right.......a gaggle of geese.  An extremely NOISY gaggle of geese that thought nothing of walking out into the thoroughfare - causing several cars to stop and wait - while they crossed the road.

Evidently I didn't stop fast enough because the leader of the pack.....the Daddy Goose....turned and looked at me like "Excuse me, I have the right of way here, you idiot!"  Oh my goodness, I was laughing so hard it took several attempts for me to focus the camera for these pictures.  After I got the go ahead from Daddy Goose, I laughed all the way down the road.

These guys mean business!  What's really funny is that the bikers, drivers and pretty much anyone else that has to yield to the geese think nothing of it.  It happens all the time!  You talk about noisy....these suckers can honk with the best of them.  You can hear them chatting with each other a block away!  I'm going to remind Jim how lucky he is the next time he rolls his eyes the second I start babbling about something.

We're not in Texas anymore! :)
