Gardens have been a part of the Suggs family for as long as I can remember. Garrett planted a grapevine at Mom & Dad's the same year Delanie chose strawberries. Charlene always has something growing in her back yard. Not to mention the huge pear tree she loves to pamper. Bill can grow absolutely anything. Victory gardens started for my grandparents during WW2. I don't know what happened to me......I didn't inherit the green thumb. I'm hoping with the friendly Summer weather in Minnesota, that will soon change.
Last week, our neighbors asked if we wanted some extra tomato plants they didn't have room for. It was funny how different my reaction was to Jim's. My mind started racing about plowing up the sunny side of the house, reducing our carbon footprint, helping the environment, etc. Jim started agonizing on how much work was involved.
After tons of research (once a teacher, always a teacher!), it was time for a Home Depot run and several hours of dirty, stinky and sweaty work. Check out the results....
We have tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos, sweet red peppers, onions, basil, rosemary and cantaloupe. Not bad for our first time! It's exciting to see the growth each night . My first sweet red pepper is starting to grow. Keep your fingers crossed! I'm hoping to make a huge batch of salsa soon! :)
