Flashback Friday

Happy Friday.....and Happy Halloween!!

The Halloween before the big move to Minnesota......

If you look really close at the photo below, you will see that Garrett is wearing a bracelet that says "I love boobies".  Yep, that's my kid right there.......I'm so proud.  The first time I saw that bracelet, he told me he was wearing it to promote awareness for breast cancer research.  Yep, it's official......he thinks I was born yesterday.  :)

Locks of love

Delanie has been talking about chopping her hair off for the past few months.....probably mid-Summer.  When she had a trim before school started, she wasn't quite ready.  That all changed this week!  Out of the blue, she texted me and said it was time.  (This kid is so much like her Momma that it's scary.  When I make my mind up to do something.....Katy bar the door.....nothing will change my mind.)

Delanie was hoping her hair was long enough to donate to Locks of Love.  It's a wonderful organization that makes wigs for children with cancer.  Her pony tails were just long enough! :)

And here we go.......!

No turning back now.....!

By this time, I was so proud of her that I wanted to burst!  This kid is so brave.....and confident....and independent.  I just can't get enough of her.  :)

After the cut, Kelli (our hairdresser) wrapped up the hair for Locks of Love then started styling.  Delanie knew just how she wanted it to look so she decided to take over.  (See what I mean about independent?)

Voila!!  Doesn't she look older?  Like a music major in college?  She LOVES it!! :)

Flashback Friday

Happy Friday!!

Of the thousand things I miss about Texas, this one ranks way up there.  Each year, Bea and I would escape for an entire weekend to attend a scrapbook retreat.  For 48 straight hours, we did nothing but scrapbook.....and talk.......and scrapbook......and laugh......and scrapbook some more.  Man do I miss those weekends!! :)

There is never a shortage of laughter when the two of us get together.  This particular weekend was no exception.  One of my goals for 2015 is to find a central location for us to meet up again.  Maybe NOLA with the cousins???  Hmmmm.......sounds good to me!! :)

Get your guns up!

Kevin and Brandi took the kids to Lubbock last weekend for the Texas Tech homecoming game.  They were so excited!!  Delanie flew to Dallas Thursday evening and they all drove the 6+ hours to West Texas for the celebrations.  Both Kevin and Brandi graduated from Tech so they were stoked about showing the kids their old stomping grounds.  :)

Garrett and Delanie posted their highlights of the looooong drive on Instagram......

Once they arrived in Lubbock, the festivities began!  Garrett and Maci in front of the Matador (the school mascot).  Texas Tech's mascot is the Red Raider and their battle cry is "Get your guns up!"......that explains the finger guns. :)  The mascot was wrapped in red streamers for homecoming.

One of the old haunts was a restaurant called Spanky's.  It's tradition for the diners to write on any surface they can find.  Delanie found a spot and signed her name and "future student".  She plans to cross out the "future" when she gets accepted.  Needless to say, her dad was so excited that she finally committed to attending his alma mater.  :)

Before the big pep rally, Delanie was lucky enough to meet Tech's band - The Going Band From Red Raider Land.  Talk about a dream come true!  The drum major even let her try out his snare drum.  This is all she talked about when she got home.  :)

Future Tech drumline member here......

After the pep rally was the annual bonfire.  These two are so cute!!! :)

Saturday was the big game......Texas Tech beat Kansas State, 34 - 21.

Flashback Friday

Happy Friday!!

I remember this family photo shoot like it was yesterday.  Everyone gathered at Charlene and Bill's house for a Bon Voyage party a few weeks before we left for Minnesota.  If you know anything about me, you know that I love family photo shoots!  I torture my family each and every year for a group picture for our Christmas cards.  Truth be told.......most of the time it ends badly.  Not this year though!  :)

Charlene has the most beautiful back yard.  The pool turned out to be the perfect backdrop.  Several things about this day stand out in my mind.....
  • It was so dang hot!!
  • Dinner was delicious (as usual at Bea's house).
  • The kids were running around laughing and playing all day.
  • We all crowded together on the living room couches to watch the Cowboy game.
As it turned out, this would be our last family photo shoot with Mom.  She was in such great spirits.  I remember her laughing and cracking jokes the entire time.  :)

My husband rocks!

Jim surprised me last weekend with a new car!!! :)

This thing is totally bad ass!!  It has navigation, back-up cameras and this awesome heads-up display.  The dashboard projects a hologram onto the windshield to show your speed, directions, radio station, etc.  It's the coolest thing I have every seen.  Needless to say, it was a blast driving into work this morning.  :)

Happy Birthday G!!

Garrett Todd turned 20 yesterday.......yep, TWENTY!!  He has officially entered his third decade.  I can tell you he's even cuter at twenty than his was at ten (see below) and that's no easy feat.  :)

This kiddo can make me laugh like nobody's business.  We talked on the phone last night - for a whopping 45 minutes! - and we were laughing the entire time.  Besides being wet-your-pants-funny, he has one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen.  He's honest, loyal, compassionate and super cute!

Happy birthday Garrett!!  I'm so lucky to be your momma.  :)

Flashback Friday

Happy Friday!!

I'm especially excited while typing this post.  Guess who's coming to see his momma for a WHOLE WEEK?!  Yep, this precious little one! :)

He will probably die of embarrassment when he sees this picture but I just had to share it. That's frosting all over his face. I could squeeze him until he pops!!!

Home improvements

It's funny how I tend to decorate our home in spurts.  Months will go by and I won't do any decorating at all.  Then, all at once, I want to change everything! :)

A few weeks ago, I got the urge and went nuts.  Delanie and I went on a five-hour shopping spree to gather everything I needed. I was in Heaven (her, not so much!).

The first order of business was the den.  The TV cabinet has had me stumped for over a year. I bought a few things at the Junk Bonanza (last year!) that I just couldn't figure out how to put together.  I knew I wanted a warmer look and I knew I had to incorporate my favorite symbol.....fleur de lis.  You can take the girl out of New Orleans but you can't take the New Orleans out of the girl.

Starting to look a little warmer, more cozy.....

This photo below was my favorite project.  The wall in my dining room has been a mess lately.  When we first moved in, I had a collage of family photos.  That worked for about a year before I started getting twitchy.  :)  I really love how this gallery wall turned out.

Next up came the mudroom....  I should have taken before pictures.  Imagine this:  one open wire shelf above the washer/dryer.  That's it.  That single open shelf drove me crazy!!  I couldn't keep it from looking like a catch-all for detergent, dryer sheets, etc.

I've been trying to convince Jim to install shelves for a while now.  He thought that was a job best suited for a professional.  Are you kidding me???  My husband can do ANYTHING!!!  Here's the proof.  Good-bye open shelving, hello yummy cabinets!

The command center serves as our family information center.  It's located right inside the door from the garage.  I think it turned out great!!!  I'm a huge fan of black, burlap and metal.

That should satisfy my cravings to spruce up the place.  My next project is the baby below.  This has been hanging out in my dining room (near the gallery wall above) for over a year.  I would really like to turn it into a wine rack.  It's the exact shade of blue that's I've been adding to the main floor. If I don't do something with it soon, my sweet clutter-hating husband might put it on the curb.

Stay tuned and wish me luck! :)

P.S.  Work starts on our deck/landscaping next week!!!  I can't wait to share the pictures with you.

Homecoming 2014

Last weekend was Delanie's first homecoming at the high school! :)  What a fun - and packed! - weekend.

After an entire week of spirit days.......pajama day, flag day, etc........Friday night was the big game.  Both teams were undefeated.  Thankfully, Delanie's school took home the win.

Delanie and the pep band.....

High school band in Minnesota is entirely different than high school band in Texas.  Friday night football is a religion in Texas.......full of half-time shows, performances, etc.  Up here, the band doesn't march on the field.  They gather in the student section and play during the entire game.  It was so much fun to watch her from the stands.  Can you tell they were having a great time?! :)

The homecoming dance was on Saturday.  Delanie's group of friends gathered together at our house for pictures.  This is the funniest group of kids.  Each one has such an outgoing personality.  Instead of going with "dates", they decided to hang out as a group.

Thankfully I wasn't the only parent that tortures her children with the camera.  I was definitely in good company! :)
